Description

Dear student,

The world is full of mysteries, from the stars to fossils and from quarks to cells. But for us, the greatest mystery has always been other people, and this is what led us to take the first psychology course at university.

What we remember from these courses is that the ideas we encountered and the lectures we heard captivated us, but what we don’t remember are the course textbooks. This probably happened because those textbooks resembled encyclopedias full of terminology, names, and dates, which we eagerly sold to some other unsuspecting fool as soon as we finished our final exams.

When we became psychology professors, we began to wonder why course books had to be like that. We decided they shouldn’t, and so, in 2008, we wrote the first edition of Psychology, a book we wished we had had in our hands when we were students.

The world’s reaction to the book was, to say the least, thrilling. We had never written a teaching book before, so we had no idea what to expect, but not even in our wildest dreams did we imagine that we would end up winning the Pulitzer Prize!
