Description

True heroes can never rest in peace. They are always there, running, fighting, getting tired, struggling. They lead. This is their fate. To remain in the forefront. They are given no choice by the living. They themselves cannot do otherwise; History does not allow it. The rest of heroes does not suit them, it is not meant for them, their destiny cannot be that. Always, even after death – even more so then – it is the High.

Nikos Temponeras was a Mathematics teacher at a school in Patras. On January 8, 1991, at the height of the magnificent movement of student occupations of the school year 90-91 against the bill of the then Minister of Education, Vassilis Kontogiannopoulos, he was brutally struck in the head with a crowbar by ONNED member Giannis Kalambokas and died early the next morning. The result of the murder was the resignation of the Minister and the withdrawal of the bill.
