Closed-type elbow crutch
The elbow crutch is the most common type of cane, which has a cuff around the lower arm for stability. Usually, the weight is transferred to the arms. The feet are usually adjustable.
Useful information
- When used on stairs: if there is a handrail, hold it with one hand and use the crutch with the other. If there is none, the cane is placed on the same side as the weak leg.
- For correct height adjustment: the handle should be at the same level as the wrist when standing upright.
- Check the tips: elbow crutches have rubber feet, known as tips, that prevent slipping. Check regularly for wear.
