The Ibanez TOD10N-TKF is Tim Henson’s (Polyphia) signature nylon-string guitar, designed as a hybrid Thinline Nylon instrument. It combines a solid Sitka spruce top with a hollow sapele body, delivering a balanced acoustic response with minimal weight. Its design features a side sound port and no front soundhole, effectively preventing acoustic feedback at high volumes. For stage and studio amplification, it is equipped with a Fishman Sonicore piezo pickup paired with the Ibanez AEQ210TF preamp. Its ergonomics are similar to those of an electric guitar, with a slim C-profile nyatoh neck, a walnut fretboard with a 15.75" radius, and the distinctive Tree of Death inlay.
Basic Features
Thinline Design, Material Selection & Side Sound Port Architecture
The Ibanez TOD10N adopts FRH geometry with a compact 50 mm body depth, combining the comfort of a solid-body electric guitar with the acoustic properties of a traditionally built instrument. The top is made from Solid Sitka Spruce, offering a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, fast attack and extended tonal clarity. The Sapele body features internal cavities that allow air to move freely while preserving warm low-mid frequencies. The absence of a conventional central soundhole in the top eliminates unwanted feedback resonances on stage, while the side-mounted Side Sound Port directs sound waves straight toward the player, serving as a natural acoustic monitor.
Fan Bracing Architecture & Internal Engineering
An internal Fan Bracing system is fitted to the solid top, specially redesigned to work with the lower tension of nylon strings in a shallow body. The radial braces allow the spruce top to vibrate with maximum amplitude around the bridge, ensuring an immediate dynamic response and prolonged note sustain (sustain). The neck is securely joined to the body at the 16th fret, providing full structural rigidity against mechanical stress and allowing sound waves to travel freely along the instrument.
Ibanez AEQ210TF Electronic Amplification and Preamp System
The electrical amplification of the natural sound is based on the Fishman Sonicore piezoelectric transducer, installed beneath the bridge, which accurately captures the mechanical vibrations of each string. The signal is routed to the specialized Ibanez AEQ210TF preamp, tuned to deliver a balanced tone without metallic coloration. The side-mounted control unit features a volume control (Volume), a two-band analog equalizer (Bass / Treble), a phase reversal switch (Phase) for immediate suppression of acoustic feedback, and a built-in digital chromatic tuner with an LCD display and automatic output muting.
