Platies belong to the family Poeciliidae and are members of the genus Xiphophorus. They are very peaceful fish, making them extremely social. They are ideal for beginners and are a good addition to a community aquarium. Platies are active, hardy, and breed easily in the aquarium. Males stay small, making them suitable for small aquariums as well.
