Masters of Crime: Rapture is a cooperative mystery game that requires players to solve puzzles, follow clues, and make decisions to crack a case. Players use the included card pack, twelve hidden documents with realistic puzzles, and the Internet. Through a "choose your adventure" mechanic, players make decisions that influence the course of the game and lead to solving the case at the end. Alternately, they enter various realistically designed locations and meet different suspects. They choose from three different ways to handle each situation and earn points based on their decisions. Complex puzzles and escape room elements must be solved to progress in the case.

The game closely integrates with the real world, and players need to use traditional apps like Google Maps or Wikipedia to gather information. Email, detailed websites, and phone calls are also part of the immersive gaming experience.
