Description

Description

The updating of biblical and patristic discourse, as well as of the entirety of the Sacred Tradition, along with their decisive role in the Church's perception of the world and its transformation into a Body with the eschatological perspective of becoming a Kingdom, presents itself as a necessity and demand of the modern world, while simultaneously serving as a constant duty and work of the Church and the science of Theology.

This very work has been tirelessly and successfully carried out by Panagiotis Nellas in his brief life. His engagement with the work of this groundbreaking and pioneering theologian of the 20th century, who left the world and his beloved science prematurely and unexpectedly, offers the opportunity to view and perceive things, theological and otherwise, under a broad perspective.

Broad and free from the constraints that still hinder the prophetic witness of Theology in the modern world. This study seeks to synthetically explore the main axes of Panagiotis Nellas' theological thought, witness, and contribution, a theologian who produced his main work within the short period of about fifteen years, from 1970 until his sudden death in 1986.

Although his work centers around Orthodox theological anthropology, it fits into a broader framework of dialogue between Theology and the Church with the modern world and culture. It constitutes a landmark and milestone for theological thought of the 20th century, while the journal Synaxis – which he founded in 1982 – continues to be published consistently for 38 years after the death of its founder, contributing steadily and significantly to the theological renewal in our place for four decades.
