The book "Changes in Employees' Perceptions of Social Protection through the Experience of the Crisis" presents a sociological overview of key theoretical and research studies, examining how the phenomenon of crisis affects employees' perceptions of social protection and work.
The crisis as experience not only changes the economy but also the way employees perceive themselves and their relationship with society and institutions. Through central sociological theories on the impacts of the experience of crisis (Durkheim, Merton, Marx, Jahoda, Weber, DuBois, etc.), it analyzes how employees, particularly in precarious or informal forms of employment, experience alienation, insecurity, and the inability to integrate socially.
The crisis is not only defined economically but also as a crisis of identity and institutions, leading to the "normalization" of phenomena such as unemployment. At the same time, forms of employment are changing: the distinction between dependent and independent work is blurring, and a large portion of workers remains legally unprotected as they operate in the gray area of employability.
Simultaneously, technology and the transition to the service economy exacerbate individuality, undermining collective structures of solidarity. Thus, work shifts from a social right to a tool for survival.
The book concludes that the crisis radically alters how employees understand themselves, work, and their relationships with the state and society, highlighting the need for new, meaningful forms of social protection in the field addressed by the science of Social Policy.
