Description

There is no Greek home without at least one piece of embroidery, one knitted item, or one woven fabric made by the hands of a grandmother or a mother. A thread that begins from the past and weaves variously into the future.

An important part of life has also been clothing, which showcased the cultural identity of each place along with the way of life, while always serving a protective and aesthetic function, revealing the personality and character of the person wearing it. In reality, clothing reflects the facets of a society that is constantly changing, evolving, with fabrics now "traveling" all over the world.

The arrival of the Industrial Revolution, the intensification of production and efficiency, mass production, and low costs gradually marginalized handmade items and in some cases, wiped them out. Thus, traditional techniques that contained creative materiality were lost, the circular economy and reuse were lost, in favor of an irrational and unsustainable way of consumption.

However, memory can be embroidered, woven, stitched onto a piece of fabric, and correspondingly, a piece of clothing, an embroidery, a woven item is capable of bringing forth memory, reviving images and faces of the past. This is the purpose of this study, which reintroduces these arts and the lives of the people who practiced them.
