Description

Wars, armaments, nuclear weapons, terrorism, murders, nationalism, images of the enemy, hatred, racism, sexism, poverty, discrimination based on race, nation, gender, class, sexuality, disability and social injustice, immigration, refugee issues, health and energy crises, ecological destruction, propaganda, etc. are just some of the forms of violence that are continuously increasing, to the point that they geometrically degrade the quality of life for people and all living beings on the planet.

Starting from the question "Can education help in solving the above problems and in building peace?", this book focuses on the Pedagogy of Peace in Modernity, which, initially optimistic, responds positively to the above question and works in favor of an education aimed at peace.

However, given the different definitions of the concept of "peace", both historically and synchronously, peace educators have produced different discourses in Peace Pedagogy (idealist, critical, pragmatic, ecological-systems, feminist Peace Pedagogy) and, correspondingly, different knowledge and discourse practices for the educational field. This book also addresses these different pacifistic educational discourses.
