Bay leaf has beneficial properties for certain upper respiratory tract disorders, is soothing for arthralgia and itching, and calming for the stomach. Additionally, it offers diuretic, sudorific, antispasmodic, and emmenagogue actions.

The steam of the decoction is considered respiratory tonic and decongestant. The decoction of the leaves and fruits is used for wound care as a cleansing, tonic, and healing agent. The powder of the leaves is also applied to wounds for disinfectant and healing effects. Bay leaf aids in the digestion of plant proteins mainly found in legumes.

Usage: Internally, it is taken as a decoction of the fruits, as an infusion of the leaves, or in tincture form. Externally, washes with the decoction are used for dandruff and as a poultice for bruises. The essential oil mixed with a carrier oil can be used for massage in cases of chest infections, cough, stiff muscles, and sprains.
