Description

November 1824. Can the murder of a twenty-four-year-old soldier change the course of a country? While the revolution simmers in Morias, dark passions, unconfessed loves, and secret claims destroy ideals and lead to a civil war that overturns the established order.

The treacherous murder of Pano, the firstborn son of Theodore Kolokotronis, who was meant to be the governor of the new country, ignites the anger of the ordinary people. His father takes matters into his own hands and searches for the assassin. In his journey, he will turn back to the past and relive the events of the revolution in a different way.

Who is the murderer and how involved is Europe in this assassination? Why should the new country not be governed by a Greek, especially by a revolutionary? What interests shaped the course of the country?

What role did Metternich, Napoleon, Tsar Alexander, Lord Byron, as well as Mary Shelley, Beethoven, and the Duchess of Placentia play? The odyssey of uncovering Pano's murderer, through continuous twists and turns, will shed new light on the events as well as on the contradictory personality of his father.

How did an ordinary man made of common material, desires, vision, doubts, action, love, and anger, transform into such a hero, whom his people believed in as a God and Europe feared as a devil?

The novel was very good regarding the author's writing style. In my opinion, it is a historical novel with references to many well-known and unknown, for many readers, pages of our history. I gave only three stars because, on the one hand, I was tired by the constant 'jumping' to different dates, e.g., from 1827 to 1813, etc. – I couldn't remember the names of the protagonists of the events, mainly English, French, Russians, etc., and on the other hand, I missed the sources of the events; there were very few on some pages of the book with asterisks.
I recommend the book; one learns a lot about the Greek revolution through the shocking event of the murder of Panos Kolokotronis.
