The Glowlight Tetra (Hemigrammus erythrozonus) belongs to the Characidae family and gets its common name from the iridescent red-orange stripe along the sides of the fish. As these fish grow, the stripe becomes increasingly vivid. They become more and more beautiful over time.
A group of this size will require a tank of about 15 gallons or more. This hardy little fish adapts well to a variety of conditions and is easy to breed, making it an excellent choice for beginners.
These fish are more comfortable in an aquarium with floating plants to help diffuse the light, but they also need other open spaces to swim. They are not prone to overeating, but they like to eat small amounts of food several times a day. It is best to feed them what they can eat in about 3 minutes or less, ideally 3 or 4 times a day.
