Step into the role of a hero who has suffered at the hands of one or more of the four gangs in the game. The goal is to improve your hero, explore gang hideouts to locate the villains who wronged you, and take revenge through action-packed battle sequences consisting of dice puzzles.

The game Revenge alternates between preparation rounds and battle rounds. In the preparation rounds, players heal and upgrade their heroes with new abilities and items. They also explore gang hideouts to locate the bosses who wronged them and seek revenge in the battle round.

The battle round is the heart of the game. Players choose one of the explored hideouts containing a boss who wronged them and invade it to exact revenge. They earn victory points by killing the boss, freeing the hideout from all minions, or for maximum points, both. They have three rounds to accomplish this and leave the hideout unharmed.

Battles are essentially dice puzzles. In each battle round, players roll a set of dice and decide the order in which to play the results of the rolls. Ability and item upgrades allow players to swap dice results or combine results to perform combos against enemies. These upgrades help reduce the luck factor of dice rolls, giving players more control over their battle actions.

Players earn points by killing bosses who wronged them, that is, by matching the image on the revenge card with one of the hidden boss cards associated with each hideout and/or by freeing all the minions of a gang that matches the color of the revenge card they have in play.

At the end of the game, players earn additional victory points through three mission cards in play.
