The board game In the Shadows is a two-player strategy card game that depicts the struggle of the French Resistance against the Nazi forces and the collaborating French forces from January 1943 to June 1944. In the game, players take on the role of either the Resistance or the Occupation, aiming to win the hearts and minds of the French people.
The game promotes understanding of the details of the Resistance and the secret nature of the struggle that led to the founding of the modern French Republic. Victory is determined by a combined evaluation of Occupation Resources and the required Resistance units at the end of each round.
In the Shadows also offers a solo narrative option, where players can assume the role of a Resistance leader. These different playable characters allow for a variety of experiences against a challenging automated Occupation. Using the same mechanics as the two-player game, the solo option focuses on a more immersive gameplay experience.
