Description:
The young leaves of the birch are rich in saponins and contain a flavonoid diuretic derivative, hyperoside, terpenes, and tannins. The buds contain essential oil, while the bark contains betulinic acid and a glycoside, betulodiside. It acts as a diuretic, antiseptic, and tonic. Birch leaves are effective for cystitis and other inflammations and infections of the urinary system. The flower buds of the plant have similar properties.
Birch eliminates excess fluids from the body and can be used for gout, rheumatism, and mild arthritic pain. Due to its high potassium content, its use as a diuretic does not cause potassium deficiency. The bark of the plant activates digestion and is antipyretic. It is also effective in skin disorders, mainly in melasma and lichens, and helps with the problem of psoriasis.
The bark can soothe muscle pain when used externally and can also be beneficial for eczema and psoriasis issues.
