The printer works as expected, slow in printing but with good quality. Unfortunately, some basic things that you expect to work do not work:
- It is impossible to share the scanner with neighboring computers or make it work connected to a print server, as Epson does not provide drivers.
- The Epson scanning application (Epson Scan) can only find printers connected locally via USB, and it does not detect or have settings for shared printers from other PCs on the network.
- The same applies to the Epson iPrint application for Android, so the only way to print to it from Android is to directly connect it to the mobile device using OTG.
- There are some available CUPS drivers from Mopria.org that help with printing, but they have limited printing options and only support A4 size, and they do not provide a solution for scanning.
- DOES NOT SUPPORT PRINTING DOCUMENTS FROM A USB FLASH DRIVE. The options on the printer panel only allow for printing photos, not even PDFs.
- For a printer of this category, the lack of support that makes it useless for an office is disappointing, considering that even a 100 euro all-in-one printer fully supports these features. The responses from Epson support are completely irrelevant, with general references to the user manual.

[+] The inks have an excessively long lifespan.
[+] High-definition printing on photographic paper and on DVDs.

[-] Lack of wireless connectivity via WiFi.
[-] The package does not include a USB-A (male) to USB-B (male) cable, which is necessary for connection.
[-] Cheap plastic construction despite its exorbitant price.
[-] Even when closed, it faintly sounds like a motor is running near the power supply.
[-] At random intervals, it prints black spots on the top of the pages.
[-] If you don't print continuously, all the problems that occur in €25 printers also appear, and EPSON refers you directly to one of the two authorized repair centers, which do not even have the necessary spare parts readily available and provide estimated times of about one month. Attention: Read the reviews they have on Google before choosing which one to go to, if you go.

Indicative unacceptable after-sales prices by EPSON:
> Diagnostic check: €25.
> Ventilation: €25.
> Head cleaning system: €100.
> Heads: €250.

In other words, for the simplest malfunction, you pay €50, while if something happens to the heads, you pay almost the value of the multifunction device itself.

The printer is worth every last cent for the job it was made for, for photos but also as a tool for ONE computer, not for general office printing with many computers (details below in the negatives). It is truly the best in its category. Quality photos and very cheap but only with photo paper, and I recommend Epson's so you know which option to choose for paper type because it has presets from the installation program, BUT personally I have also tried mediarange because they are dirt cheap and the prints are incredible, as if from a professional photo studio.

Note:
The printer is no longer in production, its replacement is the Epson L8050. So if you find the L850 somewhere at the same price or even worse, higher, don't even bother buying it. The L8050 (A4) and the L18050/L18100 (A3 model) are the replacements for the L805/L810/L850 (A4) and the L1800 (A3). The L18050 and L18100 are the same printer, there is no difference, it's a matter of region as far as I know, if you want A3 get the more economical one.

The scanner is not AS good as I expected, unless you just want to make a quick photocopy and thus don't care about the quality (details below for the problem I see).

First, it is not a simple printer where you can just put photo paper to print photos (like pretty much all printers)... this one is the opposite, it is made and refined mainly for photos but also prints all documents like a simple printer without issue and is also a scanner and copier all in one.

------------- Inks: -------------
Economical bottles with genuine Epson ink and you're set for thousands of prints. No more conventional inks, or refilling with syringes and ink spilled everywhere or the fear of clogging the nozzles because the ink was fake. Only genuine ink, economical and top quality.
Also, the genuine ink is also photographic so the print doesn't lose colors over time. The paper and the inks both play a role.

Update April 2024: I have printed a ton of images and photos and still have the original inks. I haven't counted how many photos I've printed, but it still prints flawlessly. I've had the printer since 13/Dec/2021 and it's been over two years and the inks are almost halfway except for the black which is just above 1/4 because I printed way too many text documents and some had black and white images. So I bought inks and refilled them all to the top to reset the ink percentage. I won't count ink anymore, if the black hadn't dropped so low I would have gotten another year, it just happened that I printed an excessive volume for postgraduate work, and printed for all my friends so they wouldn't have to go to copy shops, that's how it dropped so much.

------------- Print Quality: -------------
If you use the right paper you will literally be amazed. And one reason is that the printer also has two extra inks for light cyan and light magenta so the lighter shades are printed without much dithering with dark ink, meaning instead of seeing up close dark color spots scattered on white paper, this uses more solid color since it has lighter inks for that reason. If it also had gray ink then I believe it would be in the professional printer category.
50% of the quality in a print also depends on the paper and its coating. The glossier, the more professional it looks, the more matte, the duller the colors.

------------- Attention: -------------
You should do a test print once or twice a week if you don't print often so the inks don't dry on the heads, it uses literally negligible ink and will save you from printing problems in the future. You don't need to print a photo or a whole page, just do a print that uses all 6 inks, do the print test it has built-in or print a small image with many colors.
Also, I suggest if you want to print a photo on expensive paper to do a test first to see that the inks are OK. Some say it may throw a blotch on the first print, so do a small print on plain paper to make sure there's no issue. It has never done this to me but I print three times a week an image with all the RGB colors in spectrum.

------------- Printing media: -------------
The fact that it has USB stick printing doesn't interest me, I'm not a shop, I would prefer it to have wifi and print from mobile or remotely from the computer. Also, from a stick it only prints images, not documents, but it's a photo printer, that's how it's advertised, so I don't mind and never use a stick, I print exclusively via computer to have all the options I want.

------------- Printing on DVD/CD and pvc cards: -------------
I don't know who cares about this but this feature exists so why not.
It has an extra tray that I bought extra from a well-known Chinese site because it wasn't included, I have printed on printable discs and it came out like an authentic bought DVD. All the music CDs I've burned for friends (yes, there are still cars with CD players) and printed, everyone is amazed I do it at home. When I backup images and videos to discs to keep them archived, I print things on them and it helps a lot.
I've also printed on special inkjet pvc plastic cards and the quality is professional. It's amazing how well it prints on these two media. Note I'm not talking about cards that are cardboard, it can print those too but you can print them on A4 photo paper and cut them to size, I'm talking about real plastic printable cards that also have RF or other electronic use or just plain pvc cards.

When I print a photo on good paper and set "high quality" it's understandably slow. On plain documents I'm satisfied but still you can't call it fast.

------------- Scanner: -------------
I've tried ALL the options in terms of quality, file type (bmp, jpg, etc.), compression level, resolution... everything. It scans the file in areas and each area is joined with the next in the most obvious way without continuity. It's like it misses some parts of the image and stitches the areas together without being continuous.
-- After a lot of research I found that the newer cheap scanners (and especially those in all-in-one printers) are cis type (contact image sensor) and not a large sensor, they have several small ones next to each other with overlap and then something like image stitching happens. See the last image for how it is and why it does this.
So my ancient HP scanner from 2004 scans better because it has a ccd sensor, I also have an Epson Perfection V370 which is awesome so I don't care, it's just for photocopying and not for digitizing photos.

Look at the photo below to understand the problem. Click the image to open it and then click again inside the image to get the magnifying glass and go to the points I've marked with an arrow. Maybe it's not that important but I'm picky about these things.

NOTE: By no means is the scanner for the trash, what I'm saying you see if you zoom in on the scanned image, BUT for digitizing photos that matter it doesn't work since it introduces such artifacts. For any other job it does its job just fine and you don't even see the point where it joins the image.

From an ergonomic point of view it gets zero for several reasons.
I knew these beforehand and accepted them, just pointing them out for anyone who doesn't research much and is surprised, so read:

- It doesn't have wifi, perhaps its biggest flaw, it's a matter of convenience to have it on the shelf or in the cabinet and use it remotely or for someone to use it from the next room where we have another computer. Imagine to print from the other computer we have to transfer files with a stick to my computer and print.

- It doesn't have automatic duplex, we overlook this because it's mainly a photo printer and automatic duplex is for mass production of plain documents. Of course, other Epson printers with inktank and photo quality have automatic duplex so something wasn't done right here.

- The paper is fed from the back like a typewriter so you can't have it on a shelf without a lot of space above. Obviously, photo paper is fed from the back anyway because if it's thick it would crumple, but I wouldn't mind if it also had a paper tray below for plain paper, like almost all other Epson models, even those for photos.

- The USB-A to USB-B cable is not included, it costs about 50 cents for a simple 2-meter one, it's not the money, it just should have been included. Especially since it DOES NOT have wifi and absolutely needs the cable. Also, it accepts USB-B 2.0 because USB-B 3.0 has a different square shape.

5 full stars for everything it offers, but ergonomically it's totally wrong and the scanner is only for photocopies and not for scanning images for archiving.

An excellent printer for the advanced hobbyist or professional who doesn't need more than A4 format. The printer is incredibly economical in terms of ink, as the bottle system is truly revolutionary and you can tell right away that the well-known "ink drain" every now and then to buy ink cartridges is over. The printer can handle countless prints (I read up to 1,800 prints 10x15 - I'm close to 100 and the ink is still almost full). When it asks you for ink and you can manage with 50-60 euros, and next year again if needed... I am one of those who loved printing as a hobby (amateur photographer) but I was so frustrated with the cost of ink and the fact that it would dry up and evaporate without use that I completely gave up out of conscious annoyance with the companies that turned a blind eye! But here things change... EPSON makes a difference in the market and with an extra price of 200 euros for the L850 (not by chance because you save a lot more compared to the buckets of money you would throw away on ink cartridges) it offers the solution that I personally have been waiting for years: color bottles that the ink is "used" only when the print head asks for it (and it doesn't get lost/dry up like we are used to with other printers) and bottles that you fill YOURSELF. An important note: it's not a printer "exclusively for photos".... I have an official response from EPSON that the printer can be used perfectly fine for regular prints (and I have already made several) and that it works on x64bit systems. I mention this because I almost didn't buy the printer fearing that I wouldn't be able to print regular documents. Also, the scan function is perfectly satisfactory, 1200dpi is more than enough for most photographers, and besides, anyone looking for more gets a dedicated separate machine. Consider that with 300 dpi, a print is excellent. The photo quality is exactly what I expected from a machine with 6 color bottles: good color range, good black performance, and very good detail. Don't imagine that the result can be compared to purely professional printers (e.g. the Surecolor series or the CANON PRO1/10/100) but believe me, the result is very good and it perfectly meets my personal needs. The construction of the machine I wouldn't say is excellent, as several parts give the feeling of cheap plastic, such as the trays and feeder. Otherwise, the other parts of the printer are of no concern to me in terms of quality. The plastic is the type that easily leaves fingerprints, which is a bit annoying. The software is quite good and I didn't encounter any problems either during installation or during use. Forget about LAN/Wireless connectivity as it doesn't exist.... Personally, I don't need it and besides, this printer works perfectly fine WITHOUT the use of a computer. Therefore, if the printer is not connected via USB or firewire and if the processing has been done correctly on another system, one can use an SD card (or directly from the camera's SD card) to do the job (it has a small LCD screen). Finally, it also has the ability to print on printable DVDs... I don't use this feature much myself, but I mention it for a more comprehensive evaluation of the product. Personally, the machine fully covers me as it gives me exactly what I need in the quality I want. (UPDATE 28/8/2017 --> Almost 18 MONTHS later and I have made about 500 prints from 10x15 to A4 and I still have ink!). Update 19/11/2017: I'm approaching 2 years and I still have ink and I have made almost 1,000 prints - it delivers what it promises!! Well done, EPSON! Update 27/5/2018: I still have ink after I don't even know how many prints! I have bought ink bottles and the initial ink still hasn't run out!!! Update 4/1/2019: You won't believe it, but I still have a little ink from the initial one before the minimum limit!!! I see myself changing it next month ~Feb 2019. I have never seen something last so long! Congratulations to EPSON. Update 19/2/2019: I started refilling inks after almost three years...! Truly impressive - I am amazed by the ink performance of the machine.
