With P.D. 62/2025, the legislation of individual and collective labor law has been codified to create a Code that will serve as a reference point for both the interpretation and application of this law, as well as for future legislative amendments.

The codification does not introduce any modifications, additions, or deletions to the provisions but consolidates the existing provisions as they currently stand, with logical and thematic continuity to facilitate the search within the existing legal framework. If there is a discrepancy between the text of the Code and the original provision that has been codified, the original provision will apply.

The purpose of the codification is to assist not only the directly involved workers and employers but also lawyers, judges, legal professionals, unionists, etc., who deal with labor issues. Additionally, the codification of legislation supports the principle of good legislation and contributes to enhancing legal certainty.

Among other things, the codified labor legislation includes the basic provisions regarding employment contracts, their definition and content, formation and termination, working hours (shifts and leave), and wages, among others.

The current edition titled “Applications of Labor Topics 2025 (P.D. 62/2025)” is fully updated in structure and content and includes a comprehensive analysis mainly of the articles of individual and collective labor law, where deemed necessary.

At the end of the Code, there is an Appendix listing all the original legislations on which the codification is based, as well as two useful tables as follows:

• Table of codifying provisions
• Table of codified provisions

Additionally, there are helpful tables categorizing violations and specifying the fines imposed by the Labour Inspection for violations: a) of general labor legislation.
