This work investigates whether the right to education is, in practice, a fundamental and universal right as defined by international, European conventions and national laws, focusing on students belonging to minority groups such as refugees, immigrants, unaccompanied minors, Roma, as well as students facing multiple marginalizations such as children with disabilities/special educational needs, girls, students in detention.
Its purpose is to:
- outline the existing legal and institutional framework for the right to education in Greece,
- critically approach the ways in which the existing legislation is or is not implemented through theoretical studies and empirical research, and
- highlight proposals for formal education aimed at eliminating discrimination and ensuring effective access to education for all students.
This is an interdisciplinary effort originating from law and sociolinguistics, targeting professionals involved in education such as lawyers, educators, judges, special educators, education officials, university faculty, students, and NGO staff.
