The Tamesukashi Toumei pen, part of the Tamesukashi pen series, stands out as the first transparent Urushi-type pen designed to celebrate and preserve the art beneath. In Japanese, "Toumei" (透明) translates to "transparent," capturing the essence of this pen. The pen’s unique transparency is achieved through the use of ABS, allowing the exquisite artwork to be showcased. The application of Suki Urushi enhances this transparency and provides a protective layer, creating a pen that is visually striking and durable.
Tamesukashi is a technique of applying Urushi lacquer to the desired surface. The characteristic of the lacquer is its slightly transparent yellow color, which will slowly become more transparent over time. The Maki-e beneath the Tamesukashi layer will appear more vivid due to the properties of Suki Urushi. This is a work of art born from the aesthetic philosophy of Wabi-sabi and the spirit of Kintsugi. Thus, some slight imperfections or wooden patterns may be observed on the surface. These features are embraced by multiple layers of Urushi, without affecting durability, and contribute to the pen’s aesthetic charm over time. Do not confuse them with defects.
