Description

Have we ever wondered how many unseen workers are inside radio studios behind the microphones and in television behind the cameras? How many people toil so that we can listen to and watch radio and TV programs? How many under adverse conditions go above and beyond to ensure that sound and images reach our ears and eyes perfectly? How many stay up all night so that the news and transmissions are on time, often battling rain, snow, and storms?

One of them is our own George Niktas, an electronic sound engineer who served at ERT in both radio and television sectors. A former classmate and beloved friend, not only of mine but of everyone who knows him. Calm and humble, modest and soft-spoken, he distinguished himself not only professionally for 28 years but also in the political and cultural life of the country. With consistency, sobriety, enthusiasm, and love.

George served at ERT for 28 years (1975-2002), initially in radio and later in television, with a wealth of experiences to his name. It was a profession he loved, and he dedicated himself to it wholeheartedly. Through his professional career, Niktas traveled all over Greece and nearly around the world. It was a life filled with journeys, sometimes easy and pleasant, sometimes difficult and challenging. But these journeys, both domestic and abroad, left their mark on him, and his memory is filled with stories and snapshots from those times.

He had the opportunity to meet prominent figures from political, social, cultural, and sports circles. His suitcases were always ready for sudden and unexpected trips. Many were the missions George participated in, each one a unique experience. Through this photo album, he takes us along and makes us part of his beautiful 'adventure.' A treasure capturing moments from his long career, shared with us.
