The work of Metrodorus of Lampsacus, a student and close collaborator of Epicurus, titled "On Wealth," represents the development of a tradition that begins from the classical times and has produced a series of treatises with this title during the Hellenistic period. In this sense, it is interesting to highlight this tradition.
The contribution of this treatise by Metrodorus, which has survived in a few fragments and are rendered into modern Greek and annotated, is significant because it influenced the analytical treatise of the Epicurean philosopher Philodemus. The philosopher should not seek wealth, but be content with few and necessary things. In this way, Epicurus and the Epicureans are part of the evolution of Greek economic philosophy and thought.
