I use the U-05 to actively drive speakers and I have no opinion on how it works with headphones. It produces very clean sound across all frequencies, its filters are interesting, and its upscaling fills the sound without distorting it. It also has good connections with the asterisk of the lack of analog inputs, which personally didn't interest me. I consider it to be a very good choice for its (not few) money.
