It may be expensive, but I have been using it since the 6th day of my baby's life (I didn't buy it before giving birth, because I wanted to make sure first that breastfeeding would go well and that we would continue with it – with this cost, unfortunately, it's not one of those items you buy 'just in case' and maybe never use), and now I can't breastfeed without it. You place the baby on top without needing to hold them up to reach breast height, if you are sitting cross-legged. Now my baby is 2.5 months old, she now almost covers the entire size of the pillow and sinks into it a bit from her weight. I'm not saying my back doesn't get sore while breastfeeding, but it's definitely much better than if I didn't have it at all, where my back would hurt much more, plus my arms.
It keeps its shape, and it also has a strap for extra security (I only used it during the first month, then I removed it, because I wanted to put her to sleep as quietly and calmly as possible after breastfeeding, so I didn't fasten it).
