Ginger is a tropical perennial plant belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. It thrives mainly in warm and humid climates, with main production areas being India, China, and Southeast Asia. The root of the plant has a characteristic aromatic scent and spicy taste.

The use of ginger in Greek and Roman cuisine is recorded by Hippocrates and Dioscorides. In Asian mythology, it is considered a "sacred herb" and was used as a means of exchange due to its value.
