Historical Information and Plant Morphology: Cinnamon comes from the bark of the Cinnamomum tree, which is mainly cultivated in tropical regions. The bark is cut, dried, and used either whole (in rolls) or crushed as a spice. The use of cinnamon dates back to ancient times, with references in ancient civilizations of Egypt, India, and China, where it was used both in gastronomy and for medicinal purposes. Cinnamon is a very ancient spice, already mentioned in the Old Testament.

Properties:

  • Digestive System: Cinnamon has been shown to enhance digestion and reduce symptoms of indigestion.
  • Relief from Cough and Colds: Steam inhalations from cinnamon have antispasmodic and expectorant properties.
  • Rejuvenation: Adding cinnamon to hot wine has a tonic effect.

Usage: Infusion: 1 tablespoon of crushed cinnamon (or one stick) is added to 1 glass of water, boiled for 5-10 minutes, strained, and drunk.
