Soutzoukloukoum is a traditional sweet widely produced in Komotini. It is characterized by its smooth and soft texture, sweet taste, and fragrant aroma, and contains walnut and a coating of Aegina pistachio.

The preparation process includes:

• Whole walnuts threaded onto string.
• Grinding the mixture with water and sugar.
• Dipping the walnut strings into a cauldron for stabilization.
• Hanging on poles to let the mixture set.

The caramelized, amber color of the loukoumi is adorned with Aegina pistachio, which is sprinkled over the long pieces of loukoumi.
