Soutzouk loukoum is a traditional sweet that is widely produced in Komotini. It features a secret recipe that gives it a smooth and soft texture, sweet taste, and fragrant aroma, with the addition of walnut and an almond coating.

The preparation process has ritualistic characteristics. Whole walnuts are threaded one by one onto a string. Then, the mixture is ground with water and sugar, and the strings with the walnuts are dipped into the cauldron. They are hung on poles so that the mixture can cool and set in the natural environment. Finally, the caramelized, amber color of the loukoum decorates the almond, with which each elongated loukoum is sprinkled one by one.
