Juicy tulumbas. A traditional syrup-soaked sweet originating from Turkey and the former Ottoman Empire, particularly beloved in Komotini. Tulumbas are individual bites made from dough that is fried and then soaked in syrup. The name "tulumba" comes from the Turkish word meaning "pump," which has an Italian root from the word tromba.
