The African Ficus Cyathistipula features dense, deep green foliage with large, leathery, upside-down shaped leaves. It is a striking species of Ficus that tolerates dry air and shaded conditions better than others. The plant branches easily, and its dark, peeling bark has earned it the alternative name Birchbark Fig. Ficus cyathistipula originates from tropical regions of Africa, mainly the central and western parts.
This plant inhabits many different environments, such as tropical forests, mangroves, and areas near rivers. Also known as the African Fig Tree, this species is an important part of African flora. Its leaves are elliptical to ovate, glossy green, and can reach up to 18 centimeters in length. The plant produces figs, which are flowers enclosed in a protective structure, small, round, and developing in pairs. They start green and turn red as they ripen.
- Water: Should be watered when the soil starts to dry out slightly at the top. Keep the soil moist but avoid overwatering, which can cause leaf drop.
- Air purification: Filters airborne toxins and contributes to cleaner air.
