Description

Robert Langdon, a renowned professor of symbology, travels to Prague to attend a groundbreaking lecture by his beloved Katherine Solomon, a distinguished scientist in cognitive science.

Katherine is preparing to publish a book with shocking discoveries about the nature of human consciousness, threatening to overturn centuries of established beliefs. However, a brutal murder turns the trip into a nightmare. Katherine suddenly disappears along with her manuscript, and Langdon finds himself targeted by a powerful organization as he is pursued by an unknown figure who seems to have stepped out of Prague’s ancient mythology.

As the plot unfolds in London and New York, Langdon desperately searches for Katherine... and the answers. In a thrilling race through the parallel worlds of futuristic science and mystical tradition, he will uncover a shocking truth about a secret plan that will forever change the way we perceive the human mind.

Excerpts / Statements by Dan Brown about The Secret of Secrets

“I chose a very difficult subject — that’s why it took me eight years. At some point I wondered ‘why write about human consciousness?’ It’s an airy, fragile subject. Scientists don’t even agree on what exactly it is. For me, it was like trying to hug a cloud — it kept slipping away. But eventually I learned how to make it an urgent, relevant thriller about something so unattainable.” - Audible.co.uk

“There came a moment when I thought: ‘What happens when we die?’ If you had asked me eight years ago, I would have said there’s nothing — complete darkness. Through my discussions with philosophers, physicists, and noetic scientists, I came out the other side with a completely different mindset.” - timesunion.com

“The Secret of Secrets, which concerns human consciousness, could only take place in Prague. Prague is the mystical capital of Europe… As a character, Prague is perfect for Langdon.” - timesunion.com

“There are experiments in the book that, when I first read about them, I thought: ‘This can’t be real.’ But I did further research, spoke with scientists, and discovered that all of it is true.” - Audible.co.uk

Perhaps the only book by the author that disappointed me so much. Excessive rambling in many parts, which is repetitive and interrupts the flow of reading. Quite tiring. A big book without reason. Clever subject. He has definitely written much better.

Many expectations, but great disappointment. It does not remind at all of the author's good moments. If Origin was predictable, this one is tiring already from the first half, the advantages of the researcher - professor that we so loved here have been sidelined. What a pity. Also, many grammatical and translation mistakes, rushed work. This is probably the last Brown book I buy.

  • It is the first time I did not finish a book. I read about three quarters of it and gave up because it tired me. I have read all his books and I believe this is the worst one.

  • Objectively: The subject it deals with is fascinating. The characters are well described, the pace is fast, generally Brown as you know him.
But: He does indeed ramble on unnecessarily at times, especially towards the end, the quality of the paper is mediocre to poor, it almost reminds you of a phone book, but the work is so large that obviously it would be difficult to use heavier paper.
However, what bothered me was the advertisements. Yes, you read that right. Ads for hotels, for a sex museum (2-3 times!), for underwear, restaurants, etc.... Does it take you out of the flow of the work? Yes. That's why four stars.
Conclusion: Is it worth reading? Yes. Skip the aforementioned issues and enjoy it, hoping there won't be ads next time.

Classic Dan Brown - if you've read one, you've read them all. However, it keeps you hooked with the plot. It's also huge, around 900+ pages, so you'll get your fill of action.

  • The last 150-200 pages were really tiring, to the point that I barely wanted to finish it. Nothing like The Da Vinci Code and Inferno.

Not the author's best moment. We might even be talking about his most tiresome book. I read the last 200 pages and felt like I was digging, not that the previous ones kept me interested either. It's a pity, I was really looking forward to it.

It moves in the familiar patterns of mystery, conspiracy, history. It touches the boundaries of reality and fantasy, it definitely caught my interest from the first pages, but it tired me a bit towards the end.

I have been an enthusiastic supporter of Dan Brown's narrative style and even more so of his themes.
However, it seems that when you drag something out, it loses its value and allure.
That's why it's so important for someone to know when to stop and not get caught up in pretentious things.
I'm writing this review 90 pages before finishing the book.
A 900-page book that could easily have been 250 pages.
Bad choice of city (Prague) regarding the historical backdrop it offers and an indifferent theme concerning the "secret" it deals with.
I think it's a bad exception for an otherwise notable author.
When it takes you a month to finish a book because it doesn't "hold" you, I think that says it all....

Relentless action, twists, and much bigger than his previous books. It would make a perfect movie. Only the last almost 70 pages seemed a bit pointless and dragged on a lot. However, it is worth reading.
