FiiO K15: High-Quality Headphone Amplifier and Streaming DAC

The FiiO K15 is designed for listeners seeking power, flexibility, and precision in a single desktop system. With dual AKM AK4497S DAC chips in a fully balanced differential circuit, it offers exceptional analog sound reproduction with extremely low distortion and top channel separation.

Equipped with the XMOS XU316 USB controller, the K15 supports up to 768 kHz/32-bit PCM and native DSD512, as well as full MQA decoding for studio streaming.

As a streaming DAC, it offers Roon Ready support, AirPlay, wired Gigabit Ethernet, and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G), all controlled via the 3.93″ color touchscreen, dual physical buttons, remote control, or the FiiO Control app (Android/iOS).

It supports traditional digital inputs—USB-A, Type-C USB, optical, and coaxial—along with analog line and balanced inputs, providing full playback flexibility, including local USB storage.

The AKM AK4497S chips that equip the K15 belong to the new “Velvet Sound” series from the Japanese manufacturer, with impressive specifications: signal-to-noise ratio of 129dB and total harmonic distortion plus noise of -117dB. This improvement compared to previous generations is based on DWA (Data Weighted Averaging) Routing technology, inherited from the top model AK4499EX, which significantly minimizes the impact of conversion element variations.

The choice of AKM for these converters is no coincidence. The Velvet Sound series, launched in 2014, represents a unique approach to audio conversion, where technical measurement is combined with the pursuit of natural sound. These new chips support resolutions up to 768kHz/32-bit in PCM and DSD512, allowing faithful reproduction even of the most demanding high-resolution recordings.

Balanced architecture and optimal isolation

The entire sound path in the K15, from the converters to the amplification stage, adopts a fully balanced and differential architecture. This configuration improves channel separation, minimizes distortion and noise, while maximizing fidelity.

FiiO pays special attention to detail, using a "triple board" design that separates the digital, analog, and power supply sections into different circuits. This meticulous layout reduces interference and electrical noise.

Power and flexibility for all headphones

Amplifier designed for versatility

The discrete class A/B amplifier of the K15 delivers up to 3000mW per channel in balanced output, a power that places the device in the category of amplifiers capable of handling both sensitive in-ear headphones and the most demanding headphones.

The front panel offers three types of headphone outputs: 6.35mm jack, balanced 4.4mm socket, and XLR, thus covering the main connection standards of the era. Five selectable gain levels allow precise adjustment of power to the characteristics of the used transducers.

Modern connectivity and built-in streaming

Complete audio hub

The K15 surpasses the traditional role of a desktop DAC by incorporating advanced streaming capabilities. The device features five digital inputs: optical TOSLINK, coaxial, USB-C, USB-A, and Bluetooth with support for aptX HD and LDAC codecs.

Network connectivity is based on a Gigabit Ethernet port and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G), with Apple AirPlay 2 compatibility and Roon Ready certification. This flexibility allows the integration of the K15 into various audio ecosystems, whether for local playback, network streaming, or portable sources.

Intuitive interface and control

The 3.93-inch color LCD touchscreen offers visual, intuitive control, complemented by tactile knobs for quick access to basic functions. The aesthetic draws elements from retro design, resembling a cassette player, combining a vintage look with modern features.

An infrared remote control and the FiiO Control app (Android, iOS) complete the control options, including a 10-band parametric equalizer for sound customization.
