The hybrid adapter is used for connecting single-mode or multi-mode optical fibers with SC/UPC - FC/UPC connectors, which are the most commonly used in distribution panels, linking patch cables with sources that have been spliced to the optical fiber cable. Single-mode adapters feature a ceramic centering element and are manufactured with higher precision compared to multi-mode adapters.

The device can be used with high-speed optical fibers. The signal in the single-mode optical fiber does not disperse, and the data flow is transmitted parallel to the axis, reaching the end of the fiber in a single mode without reflections. Single-mode optical fibers are the ideal solution for long-distance optical fiber communication, as the signal can be transmitted without any amplification over distances up to 100 kilometers.
