Description

The Nippon Art collection by Namiki focuses on themes related to Japanese culture and the daily life of the traditional way of living.

The pen Nippon Art Origami Gold Fish combines the art of artistic folding – believed to have originated in Japan – with the symbolism of goldfish in Japanese culture. Goldfish first appeared in Japan in the early 16th century when Chinese traders presented them to Japanese Lords and Samurai as a precious pet. Both in Japanese and Chinese tradition, goldfish symbolize wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.

In the Origami Gold Fish pen, the artists of the Kokkokai association developed a design showing goldfish swimming among bubbles and waves of gold dust. The technique used is Hira Maki-e (flat depiction), where the artist draws the pattern with colored urushi lacquer.
