This pen depicts the Kabuto, or Samurai helmet, a popular origami that embodies concepts such as bravery, masculinity, and protection. Kabuto helmets were important accessories for warriors, symbolizing the Samurai code, and today they are displayed in homes during the Boy's Festival, representing the hope that the boys of the family will grow up strong and healthy.

The technique used is Hira Maki-e (flat inlay), where the artist designs the pattern with colored urushi lacquer and then applies gold and silver dust on top.
