The bulb is sold loose, per piece. This bulbous plant has green, very narrow leaves, similar to those of onions. It blooms earlier than other bulbous plants, from January to May, with flowering lasting 3-4 weeks. Its flowers are small, funnel-shaped, and yellow. The bulbs are planted in the autumn, at a depth of about one and a half times their size, in light, fertile, well-drained, neutral or acidic soils, even in grass.

It prefers sunny and semi-shaded locations, while it can also withstand very low temperatures. The removal of overripe flowers is recommended, leaving the leaves for at least 6 weeks to better form the bulbs. They are cultivated in flower beds, rock gardens, and pots, while their flowers are ideal as cut flowers. They propagate by dividing bulbils in autumn.
