A thin sheet of pure gold is then applied and embedded deep into the metal using a special small hammer. The piece is heated to a temperature of approximately 800°C, causing controlled oxidation that darkens the background and makes the gold shine magnificently. Since 1931, when Pelikan introduced the first Toledo model, the basic design has remained unchanged, honoring decades of tradition. Each piece is made entirely in Germany, with the tiny pelican feathers hand-engraved, giving every pen a unique character.
