The Takamine EF360SC-TT Thermal Top is a handmade Dreadnought-shaped electro-acoustic guitar with a cutaway, made in Japan as part of the Pro Series / Thermal Top range. It combines a solid spruce top treated with Thermal Top (TT) technology and a solid Indian rosewood back and sides, producing a mature acoustic tone with an extended dynamic range. Its internal bracing features a hand-carved Scalloped X-Bracing system with no intermediate reinforcements, maximizing the top’s vibration response. For stage and studio amplification, the guitar is equipped with a Palathetic piezo pickup under the bridge saddle and a discreet TLD-2 Line Driver analog preamp. The construction is completed with a mahogany neck, solid ebony fingerboard, split bone saddle and a glossy natural nitrocellulose finish.
Basic Features
Wood Selection & Thermal Aging Technology Thermal Top (TT)
The guitar top is crafted from solid spruce, treated using Takamine’s Thermal Top technology. The wood is baked in a controlled, oxygen-free vacuum environment. This process alters the cellulose’s molecular structure and removes residual moisture and natural resins, emulating the acoustic qualities of an instrument played for decades. The solid Indian rosewood back and sides deliver a rich harmonic spectrum, deep lows and clear highs, complementing the top’s immediate, mature resonance in a classic Dreadnought body.
Scalloped X-Bracing Architecture & Dovetail Joint
Inside the instrument, a bracing system with hand-scalloped Scalloped X-Bracing is fitted, specially adapted to the increased stiffness of the thermally treated spruce. The scalloping reduces structural mass without compromising strength under string tension, allowing the top to vibrate with greater amplitude around the bridge, thereby enhancing acoustic volume and note sustain (sustain). The mahogany neck joins the body at the 14th fret via the classic Dovetail Neck Joint, ensuring a rigid wood-to-wood connection and unobstructed transmission of sound waves throughout the soundbox.
TLD-2 Line Driver & Palathetic Pickup Electronic System
Electro-acoustic amplification is provided by the discreet Takamine TLD-2 Line Driver preamp system, installed in the endpin jack with no external openings or controls on the sides of the body. The active analog circuit provides preset equalization (EQ) and stabilizes the output impedance, preventing signal loss over long cables. It is connected to the patented Palathetic Under-Saddle Pickup, which incorporates six independent, high-volume piezoelectric elements to accurately capture the vibrations of each string and the movement of the soundboard, with high resistance to acoustic feedback.
Split Bone Saddle & Vintage Hardware
The ebony bridge features a Split Bone Saddle, separating the B and high E strings from the rest to ensure accurate intonation along the 25.35" (644 mm) scale. The neck has an asymmetrical ergonomic profile that follows the natural anatomy of the hand, while the solid Ebony fingerboard offers excellent resistance to mechanical wear. Tuning stability is ensured by Gotoh Open-Gear tuners with Butterbean-style buttons, complementing the traditional aesthetic of the vintage Dreadnought design.
