The Marder 1 Model Figurine is a modern infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of the German army. The first prototypes of the vehicle were built in 1961, with serial production continuing from 1970 to 1975, completing the production of 2,136 units. The Marder 1 is powered by an MTU MB EA-500 engine with 600 hp. The vehicle is armed with an automatic Rheinmetall Mk.20 Rh 202 20 mm cannon, two MG3 machine guns with 7.62 mm caliber, and a Milan anti-tank missile launcher.
The Marder 1 was created as a new IFV for the Bundeswehr, intended to replace the armored vehicles Schutzenpanzer Lang HS.30, which had become outdated in the 1960s and 1970s. Development began in 1960, but the Marder 1 entered series production ten years later. As a result, the final structure was highly advanced, with a low failure rate, high mobility, and significant potential for modernization.
During its service life, many advanced versions of the Marder 1 vehicle were developed. The first was the Marder 1A1, which had much better night combat capabilities compared to the original version. Soon after, the Marder 1A2 was introduced, which included improved weapon stabilization devices—especially for the Rh 202 cannons. In the late 1980s, the Marder 1A3 entered service, with significantly reinforced armor—particularly on the front of the crew compartment—raising the weight from 28 to 35 tons. The last two developments are the Marder 1A4 and Marder 1A5— the former features better communication equipment, while the latter has enhanced mine protection.
The TAM tank and the Roland self-propelled anti-aircraft system were built on the chassis of the Marder 1. The Marder 1 vehicle has been exported to countries such as Chile and Indonesia.
