The anode is a magnesium rod and serves as the cathodic protection of the system against electrolysis. This protection method prevents the corrosion of metals that come into contact with corrosive materials, such as water.

Cathodic protection is achieved by adding a suitable material, the anode, which corrodes instead of the protected metals. The magnesium anode of German specifications is the most recommended method for protecting water-heating installations and solar water heaters.
