Wood Selection & Acoustic Geometry New Yorker

The Takamine GY93E is based on the traditional New Yorker shape, Takamine’s smallest full-scale acoustic guitar body, reminiscent of classic parlor instruments. Its compact body with a narrow waist minimizes unwanted bass buildup, delivering a direct attack, focused midrange and clear note separation—ideal for fingerstyle techniques and acoustic recording. The top is made of solid spruce, offering a high strength-to-weight ratio and a wide dynamic range. The back features a three-piece construction, combining black walnut outer sections with a quilt maple center insert for structural rigidity and balanced harmonic depth.

Quartersawn Scalloped Bracing & Dovetail Joint

Inside the instrument, a bracing system with hand-scalloped braces is used: Quartersawn Scalloped X-Bracing. The quarter-sawn spruce resists warping along the grain, while selective scalloping reduces mechanical mass in areas that are not under stress. This engineering approach allows the solid top to vibrate with a greater range of motion around the bridge, increasing acoustic responsiveness and note sustain (sustain). The neck joins the body at the 14th fret using the classic Dovetail Neck Joint, ensuring a rigid wood-to-wood connection and unobstructed transfer of sound waves.

Takamine TK-40D Onboard Preamp System

Electro-acoustic amplification is provided by the Takamine TK-40D preamp system, which works with the piezo pickup beneath the bridge saddle. The preamp features a central volume control (Master Volume), a 3-band analog equalizer (Bass, Middle, Treble), and an EQ bypass switch (EQ Bypass) for direct output of the natural signal. To control acoustic feedback on stage, it includes an adjustable Notch Filter that cuts feedback frequencies, as well as a Mid Contour switch for selectively boosting the midrange frequency range. It also includes a digital chromatic tuner with an LED display and an automatic output mute function while tuning.

Split Saddle Bridge, Ergonomics & Laurel Components

The mahogany neck features a slim profile with a satin finish that prevents hand slippage and facilitates playing across the full 25.4" (644 mm) scale length. The fingerboard and pinless bridge are made of Laurel with a 12" (304.8 mm) radius, offering resistance to mechanical wear and enabling quick string changes from the back of the bridge. The guitar incorporates the patented synthetic bone Split Saddle system, which separates the compensation for the E-B strings from that of the G-D-A-E strings, ensuring accurate intonation across all positions on the fingerboard. Tuning is rounded out by gold-finished Gold Die-Cast tuners with black buttons for stability and precision.
