The beautiful background defocus (bokeh), synonymous with the G lens name, can truly highlight your subject. The distinct calibration of each lens ensures optimal compensation for spherical aberration, resulting in smooth outlines and no trace of blurry defocus (nisen bokeh). The nine-blade aperture also contributes to the beautiful background defocus.

Sharpness across the entire image, from macro photography to infinity
Macro lenses are typically used at various focusing distances, which is why we included a variable focusing system for absolute reduction of aberration at close focusing distances. This system reduces the size of the lens while maintaining sharpness across the entire image area, from infinity to the closest focusing distance.
Precise, silent focusing for photos and movies
The two focus groups of the variable focus arrangement are driven by the innovative DDSSM (Direct Drive Super Sonicwave Motor) system, which smoothly and accurately positions the relatively heavy lenses and enables macro and full-frame shooting magnification. The system is extremely quiet, making it ideal for photographing animals and insects as well as filming movies.
Sharp image without a tripod
Although a tripod is considered essential for sharp macro photography, with the built-in OSS (Optical SteadyShot) image stabilization system, you can take sharp macro photos handheld. The heavy stabilization lens is guided by a fast linear adjustment mechanism for quick and precise stabilization.
Quick switch between automatic/manual focus
If you need to take your eyes off the viewfinder to select automatic or manual focus, you might miss the shot. With this lens, you can simply move the focus ring, located where your hand usually rests, forward or backward to choose between automatic or manual focus. The non-slip surface ensures reliable handling.
Focus lock when you need it
If you press the convenient focus hold button located on the lens body, the focus immediately locks at the current setting until you release the button. With this button, you can lock the focus even when using continuous autofocus mode.
Select the focal range you want for faster autofocus
If you set the focus range limiter for near and/or far distance according to your subject, you will limit the focus range and maximize autofocus speed. Choose ∞ ~ 0.5 meters for far distance, 0.5 ~ 0.28 meters for near distance, or "FULL" for the entire focus range.
Internal focusing for better handling
With internal focusing, only the internal elements of the lens move during focusing, so the length of the lens does not change. This facilitates handling and, in addition, ensures faster autofocus and a shorter minimum focusing distance. The filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is useful if you are using a polarizing filter.
Get Close from a Distance
The medium telephoto focal length of this lens is ideal for macro photography magnification, as it allows you to capture impressive macro photos of insects and other subjects that you cannot approach.
Ideal for movies and photos
The lens requirements are somewhat stricter for filmmaking compared to photography. Sony goes to great lengths to ensure that the lenses used in cameras with video recording capabilities have the necessary performance. For example, minimal focus shift time and silent operation are essential elements for filmmaking.
Reliability and ease of use in all conditions
The specialized design ensures reliable handling in various conditions, as it prevents dust and moisture from entering the lens.
