Description

A vintage photograph. The microcosm of a street lost under the development of the metropolis, the history of one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of mid-20th century Athens. A property, a house, a family within the urban Athenian landscape of the interwar period.

A precious testimony to a world that, in the most beautiful way, continues to remind us that it existed! "Patissia in the mid-twentieth century faintly appears on the horizon as an almost dreamlike place. In an Athens where one could feel the limits of the built world in the surrounding countryside, a residence at the end of Acharnon Street, with its property and the entire ecosystem of people, fauna, and flora, constituted a size that today seems rare and therefore precious.

The memories of the author, Anna Margaritouli, from then Henri Schliemann Street – bearing the name of an urbanity in an Athenian place full of dirt roads and few cars – come to our knowledge as a legacy with the value of a precious testimony.

Athens is the great protagonist in this narrative, spread with tributaries throughout the landscape of memory that remains vivid to those who grew up in the first years after the war. It is a generation that saw the bridge between yesterday and tomorrow in an absolute and inevitable way, as the grandmothers and grandfathers carried as a cultural heritage the entire aura of the late 19th century, and the parents were people raised in the Interwar period, parents now in the first years after the war.
