Historical Information: Germander (Teucrium polium) is a perennial plant of the Lamiaceae family, found in many regions of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Known for its therapeutic properties since antiquity, the ancient Greeks and Romans used it as a stomach and detoxifying herb.
Properties:
- Antidiabetic action, reduction of blood sugar levels.
- Anti-inflammatory properties, helps in cases of hemorrhoids and phlebitis.
- Improves venous circulation, soothes varicose veins and cracks.
- Effect on skin problems, such as itching and irritations.
- Relieves menstrual problems with its emmenagogue properties.
Usage: 1 tablespoon of germander is steeped with 1 glass of boiling water in a covered container, left for 10-15 minutes and strained before use. For washes, prepare the above tea more concentrated at a dose of 50-60 gr. in 1 liter of water.
Origin: Greece, Imathia Prefecture (collected from the Pieria Mountains).
Storage: In a dark and cool place (5°C – 15°C).
