The contribution of Gerald Cadogan to the archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean is linked to the two major islands, Crete and Cyprus, where he directed the excavations at Myrtos-Pyrgos and Maroni-Vournes, respectively.

This volume mainly includes articles about Crete and Cyprus by scholars who were taught by Cadogan or collaborated with him on excavations over the past fifty years.

More than thirty studies showcase Cadogan's wide range of interests from the interpretation of excavation data – stratigraphy, architecture, pottery, and microtechnology – to issues of prehistoric dating, ethnography and ethnic groups, technology, environment, osteology, mythology and iconography, religion, and death.

The collection of these studies demonstrates the achievements of one of the most well-known researchers of Crete and Cyprus.
