Description

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan are searching for their dream home.

But when they visit the remote mansion that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a famous psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a fierce snowstorm traps them on the estate… with no chance of escape until it ends.

Looking for a book to entertain herself until the snowstorm stops, Tricia discovers a secret room; inside, she finds a series of recorded sessions with each of Dr. Hale’s patients. As Tricia listens to the tapes, she learns about the terrifying chain of events that led to the psychiatrist’s mysterious disappearance.

Tricia plays the tapes one by one, late at night. With each one, another shocking piece of the puzzle falls into place and the web of lies spun by Dr. Adrienne Hale slowly unravels.

And then Tricia reaches the final tape. The one that reveals the whole terrifying truth.

A psychological thriller that is read very quickly and manages to keep the suspense unbroken until the last pages. Although I think it is somewhat overrated and the writing in several parts seems flat or predictable, the atmosphere and the constant twists make you want to keep going. It is not a book that stands out for its literary depth, but it works very well as an enjoyable, suspenseful read for those who love fast-paced thrillers.

Shocking ending. At first, you think it gives you the culprit on a plate and then you are shocked by how nicely it weaves everything together and delivers it to you in the end.
Very easy to read and clever, although in some parts the writing becomes somewhat flat and in others it makes you feel like you are reading a poorly written romance novel. Maybe the translation is to blame for this - if you read it, you'll understand what I mean.
In any case, I recommend it, since the ending rewards you. :)

  • Overrated, clearly below my expectations. It had room for character development which it did not utilize, and the twist at the end was forced and shallow. I will read more from this author to see if I change my mind about her work.

A bit overrated as I believed from the hype and the comments made about this book that it would be top. Very good but not as I expected

I also think it is overrated. Her writing, yes, is nice, but that's as far as it goes for me. The heroine seemed very tiring to me, she exhausted me until she decided to reveal one of her secrets, something that also happened to me in The Maid. The twist happened very abruptly, to the point where I thought I had skipped pages, that I had missed something. I give it three stars simply because the reading flows easily.

Overrated is the least I can say! 2 stars only because at first it was going well and had suspense and atmosphere. After that... a waste of time.
