A deadly game. A destructive love. Welcome to the Devil's Mansion. The game begins...

When Ophelia and her sister discover their mother's lifeless body, everything they knew changes. As the eldest, Ophelia inherits the magic of her Necromancer mother but also the enormous debt of their family. However, when her sister secretly participates in The Phantom, a deadly competition with the prize of a wish granted, Ophelia finds herself in even greater despair.

The only way to save her is to compete herself. But the Phantom Mansion is a sinister place, full of deadly temptations. There, Ophelia must face nine trials to survive – if her own fears don't devour her first.

When Blackwell – a charming stranger – offers to guide her, Ophelia knows it’s wrong to trust him. Yet, with her sister’s life at risk, she has no choice but to accept his help. The only thing she must do is ignore the dark attraction that draws them closer and closer.

In The Phantom, the deadliest fate is not losing the game, but your heart...

OK hear me out! If you liked Caraval BUT you wished it was more adult, mysterious, gothic, spicy then you need to read Phantasma! And on the other hand if you did not liked Caraval (like me) because you find it a lot more YA and boring in some parts then you will love Phantasma for it's atmosphere, characters and trials! Also the romance? Chef's kiss ? The tension???!!? He is a Phantom and she is a Necromancer ? Spicyyy

A haunted mansion that holds the deadly game of Phantasma aka the 9 circle of Hell trials for a great prize. Two sisters in debt, a legacy of Necromancy to sustain, a death and only one chance to save themselves. Ophelia Grimm is different. She carries a lot of family drama and expectations to be the best Necromancer. Set in new Orleans a deadly game is about to start. Her sister is missing and she enters to find her. With a payment to enter she steps into Phantasma. 9 circles of deadly and unique trials, a Phantom, a blood oath, and a lot of secrets for her past. Will she succeed in her mission without falling in love and being cursed?

Well now I will be forever thinking about Phantasma and Blackwell. I mean those characters are in my heart! Can't wait for the next book in this universe!

    Tropes
    ? Epic and Unique Trials
    ? Forbidden romance
    ? Plot twists
    ? Paranormal elements (Chef's kiss)
? A haunted mansion with a deadly game
    ? Lite horror, gothic vibes

    Literally a masterpiece!

It was one of the nicest books I have ever read. The plot was excellent and kept you alert throughout. The only thing I didn't like is that while in some scenes there were huge descriptions, in others they were passed incredibly quickly as if the author just wanted to move on. Other than that, it is a very nice fantasy book and a very nice love story that quite reminds me of Caraval!

“You are the closest to Heaven I will ever find” - Blackwell

    Nine trials…
    A mansion…
    A necromancer and…
    a charming stranger.
To win, she must trust him, but in The Ghost, the worst thing is not to lose the game, but to lose your heart…?

Let me start with the good, my fellow book warriors:
The story is very enjoyable and easy to understand without being tiring. It gets straight to the point and the world-building is basic, which makes the book easy to digest even for those who have never picked up fantasy before.
It’s atmospheric and a little dark, just right for Autumn-Winter, and the author manages to get you fully into the vibe with her descriptions.
    The trials are very clever.
Blackwell is the adult version of Jacks. An extremely sassy, highly enjoyable character who will most of the time leave you speechless.

My not-so-favorite things about the book:
The plot and setup of the book are a mix, more or less, from many well-known fantasy books.
    There isn’t much character development.
The idea with the trials was excellent but in execution, we lost some of the action and climax.
There was excessive spice which I found unnecessary.
    The ending came abruptly.

I definitely don’t regret reading it. I had a great time with this book and enjoyed it, but it didn’t manage to become my favorite as many parts didn’t satisfy me.

I recommend it ideally to those who are just starting with fantasy books and to those who always wanted to see Jacks a little more… ️️️

    ‼️WARNING‼️
This book comes with several content warnings and I do not recommend it for younger readers.

P.S. The Ghost belongs to a book series, however, Blackwell and Ophelia’s story is completed in this book so it can be read as a standalone.
