In addition to the specific interesting topics of population and politics regarding the settlements of Epirus, and especially the Prefectures of Ioannina and Thesprotia, the emerging situation is evident through Administrative Changes, the decrease in the population of the settlements with many of them being deserted.

The current situation in the province is the result of two centuries of deliberate continuous administrative changes. In other words, the desertification of provinces and the countryside is a structural issue.

This becomes clear also from the comparative data referenced in each chronological census.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, significant efforts were made by the people to preserve the Province. However, this proved impossible due to the aforementioned policy of unsustainable or seriously problematic habitation in the settlements.
