Humanity discovered Malifaux when the Great Breach opened in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They entered a desolate landscape… but hidden within were treasures. Constructions, relics, and tomes of magic suddenly changed humanity and Earth forever. Mages engaged with necromancy, driven mad by whispering voices urging them to push the limits of death magic. Earth's fading magic was reinforced by the Valuable Souls: beautiful gemstones extracted from deep mines capable of storing incredible amounts of energy. Industry skyrocketed. Then, everything collapsed.
Malifaux is a game of skirmish-level strategy set in a horror/steampunk environment. Each player creates a force of 5-7 figures from a faction to compete. A force consists of minions and at least one master. The game includes resource management elements, with the figure hands used instead of dice to resolve skill checks. Each check involves drawing a card from a deck and adding it to a model's stats. Players can use cards from their hands to increase the value. The highest value against an opponent's check wins. The turn system is integrated, with each player alternating turns between activating models.
Malifaux models are 32mm ‘heroic’ scale miniatures made from high-quality plastic. The miniatures come unpainted. Preparation and assembly may be required.
