Humanity discovered Malifaux when the Great Breach opened in Santa Fae, New Mexico. They entered a desolate landscape, but treasures awaited. Buildings, relics, and tomes of magic quickly changed humanity and Earth forever. Sorcerers took on Necromancy, driven mad by whispering voices urging them to push the boundaries of death magic. Earth's fading magic was empowered by Soulstones: beautiful stones mined from deep beneath the surface, capable of storing incredible amounts of energy. The industry boomed. Then, everything collapsed.
Malifaux is a miniature-based strategy game set in a horror and steampunk environment. Each player creates a force of 5-7 figures from a faction to battle. A force consists of followers and at least one master. Malifaux includes resource management elements, as card hands are used instead of dice to pay for ability checks. Each check involves drawing a card from a deck and adding it to a model's stats. Players can use cards from their hands to increase the value. The highest value in an opposed check wins. The turn system is integrated, with each player alternating turns between model activations.
